What is the old thing on this shot exactly?

I feel as if the out of focus look really takes away from this composition. I like the subtle colors though.

Now I recognize the technique, because another photographer told me how this effect is created. But do you really think it helps make this look old? Doesn't seem to work for me.

Ooohh, LensBaby shot? Always like these. Doesn't really say "old" to me, because those temple columns seem fake. Prussian royalty always built thigns that reminded them of other cultures.
