Compositionally, the shot is good, though you could conceivably crop a little off the bottom. I can see how the vast expanse offers a certain distance from the subject emotionally. As far as old age goes, I must say that it is not obvious to me that the subject is old - with the face down it could be a middle-aged man.

A strong feeling in this image, but to me it's more "homeless" than "old age." It's possible to just discern that the man has a white beard, and therefore is at least fairly old, but at first glance I thought it was a young guy tying his laces. The composition is quite good, though I think it would be stronger if there was less space in the foreground which tends to put the subject in the middle of the frame. The shot, nonetheless, does have impact.

I like the composition and the overall feel of the photo but within the context of the theme it doesn't scream old age to me.

First of all, thank you all for your constructive comments that's really cool.
I'm agree with everything said ;)
About framing: yep, maybe too much space in the foreground make distance from the subject.
About theme relevance: I went not so "objective" regarding the relation between the theme and the subject of this photo, maybe because I just remember too much the real situation when it was taken and the 100% view of the shot (where this homeless looks like a retired Santa Claus). Then I though that what was evident to me will be also evident of watchers. That's clearly an error (still learning... :))

I would like to thank you to notice that in a comment rather than in a -1 relevance rating.

I love the execution of the shot, I think the composition is very serene and simple. My only negative feeling is that the focal point is small in the frame therefore loses out in relevance and impact.
