Surreal! This just looks unreal to me... in a good way. Like a Mad Max movie. Impact with a capital I.

A very strange scene, totally filmic (reminds me of Derek Jarman)

gianello said 763 days ago:

Haha! This is great! Is this from Burning Man?

George said 763 days ago:

Yeah definitely has a burning man quality to it.

philippe said 763 days ago:

Amazing and puzzling, like a scene out of a movie.

Thanks for the great reaction, everyone... I can never loose with these Burning Man dust shots it seems. :) Greg, it's both the dust and the camera that produced the noise...and the wind too, gianello!

I realize most of you probably can't even tell what this thing is, so I'll explain a little bit. Basically, it's a three seated, mobile, feet-propelled ferris wheel type thing. It's hard to see because of all the *noise*, but someone is getting seated down at the bottom. There's three chairs suspended in a triangle with pedals and attached to chains to propel them around the inside of a geared circle at the middle of the larger circle.

So what happens is a huge amount of g-forces on the riders as the chairs rotate ferris-wheel-style with intense flings as you rotate over the top on the swinging chairs. They rotate inside of this larger circle which begins to roll slowly across the desert as a result of the geared rings that connect the large circle to the chair set-up.

It's totally wild, and a lot more intense than a ferris wheel, more like the Twister. Can you see a star on the side? It lights up at night so from across the desert you can see a star rolling around... this time it just happened to almost come down on top of me through the dust storm out of nowhere! I put the camera away and hopped on one of those empty seats for my first ride...ooooohhhaaa! www.burningman.com =)
