I can't really tell if this is night or not. I'm giving the benefit of the doubt. I'm not sure what to look at. Though the girl on the left seems to be the subject, that bright object on the pole draws my attention from her. I look forward to hearing what is going on here.

This image shows upway too dark on my screen. The lantern is neat, but I can hardly see the girl holding it and I think her expression is really important to the composition.

There's a mood here, but too bad the little girls is not looking right at you. Her lamp, being the brightest part of the image, is where my eye goes, but then I keep wanting to get a better look at her face. I like the fact there's a human element in the shot. So far it's the only one, so high marks just for that.

This doesn't say night to me. Maybe instead of using black and white, color could show us the darkness of night better and the glow of the lamps.

This is a very different entry. I like it.

I think higher contrast or greater darkness would really help though. For one thing, it might obscure the background people a bit more. And more importantly, it would really make the lanterns pop out - right now they are the only cue that this is "night" and I almost didn't notice that they were lanterns at first.

Wow, my gamma must be MUCH higher than other people's (like moodeous and George) because that girl's face is clearly visible to me.

George said 683 days ago:

luminouslens, the girl's face is visible to me too, but since it's much darker than the lantern on my screen, my eye goes right to the lantern, which is possibly the intention. However, her face isn't so dark that my eye doesn't wander over to it, which is what I was kinda getting at :-)
