Good work. For me, the fact that the cart is so dimly lit is a minor shortcoming if it is your subject and the rest is the so-called negative space. As an old advertising photographer, if this shot were created on purpose, I'd probably have added some light of light to the cart, in a very soft and subtle sort of way, or pushed the cart a little more into the light.

Taken at about 3:00 am behind a grocery store. I had a real struggle with the exposure. Initially I wanted the cart brighter, but then the bright light on the wall got overwhelming. Then, perhaps this is me just rationalizing it, I decided I like the cart sort of dimly lit. It seems to go well with the combination of desolation, emptiness, and omnipresent consumerism that in retrospect, is what struck me about this scene in the first place. In fact, I didn't move anything around at all to set up this shot.

I hope you didn't think I was suggesting shooting this any other way. Sometimes my commercial background causes me to miss shots like this, or to fiddle with them too much. To see things like this is one of your great strengths.

tops in every area, except for technique which i'm giving a 4, but you're working with the ends of the spectrum here which is typically problematic...at least for me :-) i love all your choices of composition and light. lovely aesthetic.

I am curious what you mean by "small and stretched"?

This is a straight out of camera shot, with no manipulation other than conversion to black and white and some minor exposure adjustments in Adobe Camera RAW.
