The centered subject doesn't work for me with the surrounding darkness/space. I think it would have more impact and visual holding power with the subject off to the left more. There may be a lot of negative space in the sense of the word but I don't view it as being a supporting element here and the fact that the details within the main subject are not well defined being masked by the shadows I think this could be stronger.
