Well I've watched this image and I'm surprised it hasn't been featured. Maybe my ratings will help. I think this is an excellent image. The relevance is there IMO and technically and artisticly this is very well done too. The light beam is obviously fabricated but it is effective within the intent of the image.

I like it for you looked for the very moment

The beam of light makes this shot. The colouring is interesting, and probably adds to overall impact, but I would like to see the original version.

Thank you, everybody, for the very interesting comments! I should point out that the only Photoshop work was applying contrast and sharpening. The overall colour and light beam are all genuine :o) bioLarzen: I think you have a valid point - I only realised this after posting the image.

If no photoshop on the light beam, was it misty or foggy? I think it would have had to be. As a time exposure, the mist/fog could be made visible in the light bean and not noticeable in the rest of the image.

Also, it appears to be a long exposure, but the beam of light appears stationary where one would expect it to me rotating around the lighthouse.
@mysterme
Give us some details, already. Beautiful image, I'd love to know how it was done.

Hooray!

Mysterme- I'd like the details too. Saying the beam isn't PS'd doesn't jive with my experience due to perfect edges, exposure consistancy from lighthouse to edge of frame, and star trails being visible through the beam.
Personally if it is PS'd in I wouldn't care one bit one way or the other as it is a fine image but I do think it should be noted for those that really want to know.

All I know about this lighthouse was that it was built around 1882 and still acts as a navigational aid for ships entering the River Tyne.
The beam remains static and doesn't revolve like traditional lighthouses. As you can see, the rest of the light housing is solid wood. In fact, if you look closely there is a second red beam. The main beam can be seen from about thirteen miles away.
It was very cold that evening. It wasn't foggy but there was enough water vapour from the sea to be picked up by the light.
Zac from Photoflavor commented on how unpredictable and surprising the colours are from long exposures. I have to agree.
I hope this explains things more clearly. Again, thank you for all of your comments.
SeekingFocus said 483 days ago:
Indeed it does, I did notice the other red beam. Any yeah, the color of the sky is fantastic.

Correction: I should have put Zac from 'The Attic' not 'Photoflavor'.
Sorry about that.

Well, it is space, no doubt. But for me this one is much more about the lighthouse than the space surrounding it. The beam of light draws my attention too much :(
