I'm not sure what to make of this. I'm assuming you live in a rural area and so this is common to your every day experience. The light, the lens flares, the sky and that smoke on the right are combining to make this feel almost mystical. I look forward to hearing what the story is here.

I looked in my rear-view on the way to work and noticed the sun blocked by smoke from the burning cane... had to stop! :)

I did a series of handheld shots with the idea of HDR processing. However, that didn't work out... this is from a single exposure.

@kadenajack... burning cane is a common thing on Maui. There's little sense in hauling the full crop in to the mill when all that's needed is the stalk. The result is Maui snow... the wind carries soot/ash raining down all over the place. The burning in place is a bit controversial these days but sugar is what built Maui and, besides, it's GOT to be worse for the environment if the huge cane haulers start doing double/triple the trips...

The shot was taken right between Maalaea and Kihei looking towards Haiku. Since I pass this way twice a day, have lived and worked in both Maalaea and Kihei, and can (theoretically) walk to this point from my house, I figure it fits with the theme.

Nice moody image. Maybe just a bit of lens flare on the lower left corner. Other than that, very awesome.
