Not a fan of the post processing in this image or the composition. I think I'd prefer something in the foreground with more impact visually.

Ana said 543 days ago:

I'd love to see this without the processing...and I wonder what made you do this. To make it more interesting?

King said 543 days ago:

I like the photo of your neighborhood, but even *I* don't care for the special effects (I usually like strange and bizarre-looking photos, but this doesn't go far enough in that direction).

@Tanja
You're right. It's in Singen am Hohentwiel (near Lake Constance) which is in the very south of Germany.

@culdbera and Ana
I made this photograph - actually it was 13 shots with different exposures - and the processing about a week ago simply to experiment a little with this technique. I'm a computer scientist and I do only take some shots from time to time just for fun.
I used the software Qtpfsgui (see: http://qtpfsgui.sourceforge.net/). It's open source and there are versions for Linux, MacOS X and I think there's also a Windows version.

You can have a look at the original shot here:

For my taste, the processing is a little bit overdone. Perhaps you could take the original and overlay it on top of this version and then reduce the opacity a bit until only a little bit of this version shows through; or you could try this in black and white, or at least desaturate the colors a bit because they seem too intense and unnatural.

Thanks for your comments, I really appreciate your criticism.

Wow...very strange processing...your neigborhood, as you see it after a couple cocktails?
: )

This image had some potential... I wish you better luck with your next tone mapping. You just need to practice a little more ie a bit more natural sky, eliminate haloes etc.

Jason

While I think the shot is very relevant to the theme, I just can't convince myself to love HDR which is processed to the extremes. Good shot, but I would have preferred to see the natural version of this scene.

Well this certainly has a high impact in that I suspect it would generate a few opinions/comments. Personally I don't like this type of PS manipulation because I'm more of a traditionalist but I could see it working in certain applications.

Montage said 543 days ago:

Man! That's some crazy-ass tone mapping!

Pretty cool effects there.
I like that.
