This is a cross between a high-key and a low-key photograph. I think the low-key part, that tight crop including only the girl's chin, the s-curve of the sound hole, the middle of the violin and just a bit of the hand holding the bow is the most effective part of this image. The high-key elements clash with the low key and the image, I think, is worse for the conflict. This is a good effort that I think would have been more effective against a dark background.

However, that's just one opinion and I'm sure that others will find this to be heavenly.

Sorry, Vernon, but I know your philosophy regarding critiques--water off a duck's back. That's comforting.

I think this is very unflattering to the girl... and had I rated this shot, I'd have not given it good technical points. It's certainly relevant.
Maybe you meant to feature that small curve of the instrument and nothing else? I think you actually meant to show the speed at which she's moving, and the intensity of her playing, but the lack of focus on the musician deters me from enjoying the photograph. If you used a gradient on this, I think had it been reversed, it might have had a better effect.

Hey,a beauty playing an instrument
always gets me right in the heart.
wistful and melancholy

I find this image very appealing, although my tastes would have turned it black and white. Motion blur of instruments is not an easy task even in a studio shot, which I assume this is Vernon. I especially like how her dress fades into the background in the lower part of the image.
