@stolenlife...anti-theme? My assistant got this Saab up to about 70 mph in my studio before flying off the ramp at the loading dock. I'd call that motion. We got this shot on the third try.
Besides, I approve of anti-theme entries. :>)
Thanks for your comment.
Oh, yes. No Photoshop.
The real story. The Saab is sitting in the studio where I lit it with flash and with spotlights + running lights for the blur streaks. The 4"x5" view camera was sitting on a motion-picture pan head, which allowed a very smooth pan. The camera was carefully leveled and I shot this with a very long lens so the streaks would remain straight and level when I panned the camera.

@King the theme says 'I don't want to see just a bunch of cars' and I appreciate its only one, and theres already a car featured but come on... ;)
Thanks for the run down on how this was done, its interesting to find out how shots were 'built' pre photoshop.

@stolenlife...I didn't even see the comment about cars in the theme description. I know that Beamer made a similar mark when he posted his car image. However, the theme doesn't exclude cars altogether.
Thanks again, dude.
Beamer said 312 days ago:
Very nice, the streaks off the taillights feels a little harsh. Love the look of the car itself.

Very clever King!
A great shot. But I didn't expect this one to be yours, although it totally suits your style...
King said 312 days ago:
@Beamer...I was thinking of you when I decided to post this. Thanks!
King said 312 days ago:
@ChriZ...It was also my intention to post an image that wouldn't immediately be spotted as one of mine.
I know that I've only posted "motion" shots that I set up and created for a purpose. I've shot many dozens of this type of thing.
I would like to have posted a "motion" photo that I captured without setting it up first, and I probably have a few in my archives, but I haven't had the time lately to do much shooting. And, as you know, I only have a point-and-shoot digital camera available and can't set the shutter speed or aperture, so my options are limited.
I'm too cheap to shoot film nowadays.
Thanks for your comments!

You keep racking up the features King! Lovely shot - shame I didn't get around to rating this before it got featured :)
You're certainly an inspiration to this only partly experienced studio photographer :)
King said 312 days ago:
Hey, Jemma...thanks! I noticed with interest some time ago that you are experienced in a variety of film cameras, including the view camera, and that you do your own darkroom work. Excellent.
Your own work is quite beautiful. What type of studio work do you do?; i.e., what subject matter do you prefer? Do you use the view camera in your work?
Jem said 312 days ago:
Thank you King - I work in a studio which mostly does roomsets (kitchens/bedrooms/bathrooms), with some tabletob work mixed in. I enjoyed working on B&Q kitchens a few months ago, and some bedrooms after that - but studio photography isn't my most favourite type of imagery. I prefer to be out and about using natural light for my subjects :)
When you say view camera I suspect you mean 5x4? If so, its not my prefered choice of camera for sure - i'm happier with a 'blad or a 6x9 Fuji, which is what we use at work.
King said 312 days ago:
Jem,
I meant "view camera" of any dimensions.
I would encourage anyone who wants to learn the maximum about photography to get even a little experience with a view camera--even a thorough demonstration would be very revealing and instructional.
If I could afford one, I'd own a view camera with a digital back--although I wouldn't carry it around with me. That's in addition to all the other digital cameras I'd like to own.

My passion for landscapes has just lead me to an Ebony 5x4. It's not arrived yet - I don't even have a lens ... lots to learn!
Jem said 312 days ago:
I definately agree King - I love experimenting and knowing as much about photography as I can. I've bought all sorts of bits and pieces after seeing an image with a specific technique, or learned about a particular style of photography. I have 2 rolls of colour infrared which I still am yet to break out, but i'm hoping to do so before all the leaves have gone from the trees!
At uni, my tutor tried to wittle me down a narrow path of photography - getting me to stick to one type of it but I refused, and i'm so glad I did. So much out there to experiment with and try - I think my next venture will be trying some fashion photography :)
King said 312 days ago:
@AbsolutelyN...good for you! Let me know if there's anything I can do to help.
King said 312 days ago:
@Jem,
My tastes have always been eclectic and have changed from time to time. I was a fashion photographer for a while, until I realized that although I was pretty good at it, I didn't have the least little bit of interest in the fashion industry.
I'm working on a presentation that I'll be giving at a photography class...kind of a retrospective. I'm coming to the conclusion that I should have indulged my sense of humor and created more images that make people smile over the past 50 years.
Cheers,

OMG! This has to be the coup de grace of motion shots! Simply amazing feat of conception, setup, timing and execution. You are a photo god!
King said 311 days ago:
@dre...I'm more of a photo dog, but thanks for the compliment. You almost have me blushing, and that is not my normal color, which is more of a wrinkly, pasty white.

This is so anti theme, but I like it nonetheless
