a compass? though I'm not sure what this is, it doesn't seem the least bit abstract.

Not sure about the relevance.

Its not a brilliant shot, but I think your interpretation of the theme is good

Beamer said 300 days ago:

Doesn't seem relevant, a ship's compass, not really abstract. Image is not really exciting, kinda flat both in interest and tones.

JimiThing said 300 days ago:

abstract - Noun - something that concentrates in itself the essential qualities of anything more extensive or more general.

geesh. You people focus on the obvious WAY too much. :-)

All of the crisp details in this shot enable me to accurately and precisely make out what this object is, even though the entire thing is not pictured.

That is the exact opposite of what an "abstract" is though.

I did rate a 5 on image quality though.

@JimiThing

Here is a more widely accepted definition of what I think most people mean when they are talking about abstract art (vs. the "abstract" of a scientific paper, which is more of what your definition is referring to):

"Abstract art is defined as art that has no reference to any figurative reality. In its wider definition the term describes art that depicts real forms in a simplified or rather reduced way - keeping only an allusion of the original natural subject."

JimiThing said 295 days ago:

yes and the theme is man made abstract. Not abstract art. It seems to me that it is relevant to the theme to push the limits of the definition and stretch our imaginations just a bit. In a way you have made my point for me. "More widely accepted"... what's so original about that?

gorin-images said 292 days ago:

Abstract is an "adjective" in this case, not a "noun" which is what you are quoting.

In any case, even if you were correct in your interpretation, I fail to see the relevance of your submission. Perhaps that is because I am just not a clever as you are. Or maybe there is another reason.....
