Sheesh, what is that like three in row featured of this guy. I think what it is really is not George's skill in photography that is winning people over. It's the cute little mantis! You're USING HIM GEORGE. For your own glory. You should be ashamed!

Thanks All for the inspiring comments, particularly to those with an extra bit of humor :-)

My recent spate of mantis pix have all been pure luck...with a splash of persistence thrown in for good measure. The two MACRO shots I made sometime in 2005 (you can see another photo and read the short story on my site: http://www.jargonhunter.com/images/daily/0905_articles/FridaySeptember22005.html)

A friend then gave me a "pod" of baby praying mantises which I put in my garden (they prey on insects that eat flowers, etc.) The fella in this image I believe is from that pod. I made the image yesterday specifically for this theme when I discovered my cat Dylan playing with him in the garden.

I kid! He's fine. He moved to a delightful 5-story sage bush in the south wast. The south west part of my back yard, that is. He sends his best to everyone. Here's him saying "I love bugs":
