This was taken at 10 PM; aperture mode,f 11, ISO 1600 , 1.0 sec. How could I have gotten a better photo?
Thanks

I think this would have a lot more appeal and impact if it were not so blurry.

I think that using a tripod is essential here. Then, adjusting your ISO to 100 or so and adjusting your aperature and shutter speed accordingly would give you a very very nice image of the building. In low light, it's almost always good to use a tripod...unless your lens has good vibration reduction or image stabilization capabilities. But at 10pm at night, my money's on the tripod.

This is certainly relevant, but the lack of focus is very powerful.

I'm assuming that the fuzzy focus is on purpose, so I'm wondering what was your angle. There's something very interesting about this.
eggplant said 460 days ago:
Okay, so not on purpose with the fuzzy focus. Dr. Dave, about 1/60 of a second is the threshold for hand held shots, so really a tripod is your best bet. Or, for a cool effect, set the camera on the ground and use the timer...but the human hand can not remain steady for one full second.

like the use of building and light, but it is too out of focus for me to enjoy.

Seems a little to soft.

Thanks for all the help! I have a project that requires me taking some night photos and I wasn't having any luck getting things in focus.

tripod

Too bad about the focus. Looks like a tripod would have helped a lot here. I've come home with lots of shots that look just like this.

shake .. blur

1.0sec with hand handled it's possible to get a good picture .. use a tripod or put your camera on the ground.

I am late with this but I thought I would offer a few suggestions. Night shots don't need to be shot at such a high ISO. An example I have is this shot:
http://weeklyshot.org/theme/light-architecture/featured/51/
It was shot at 400 ISO 1.3 seconds @f8 (full manual). The key is to use a decent tripod and I also use the remote shutter release. Mirror lock up is also useful although I don't think I used it for this shot.
I hope this helps. Experiment with the settings for the best results, but a decent tri-pod is a must.

I'm sorry, but it hurts my eyes to look at this photo. :-(
