Tanja, I'm afraid you haven't studied your copy of The Oxford English Dictionary lately. It actually has 65 definitions of "hand". Here is number 19:

"The pointer or index which indicates the divisions of a dial, esp. that of a clock or watch. (See HOUR-, MINUTE-, SECONDS-HAND.)"

I like this interpretation of "hands". I wish those hands, though, had a little more presence in the image. I am more drawn to "watch" than "hands" here.

The overall look is nice... contrary to what most folks like to do with their 90 giga-pixel cameras with 50 stops of dynamic range... IOW, refreshing in a retro sense, I guess! :)

thanks everybody for praise and criticism. This one didn't make it. And, yes, apparently there were some quite low marks for relevance.

A furry wrist! Very striking image with a great deal of successful processing. I enjoy the vantage of the image. I think you will likely receive lower relevance scores, for you are not capturing the stereotypical aspect of "hands", but from a scientific standpoint (I teach anatomy as well as other biology courses), the wrist area IS part of the hand, so from me, good scores for relevance as well!

I've decided that the high-contrast is very deliberate. This almost has a sci-fi feel to it (which I like). Was this shot on film? I can't tell. What are your thoughts/feelings about this? What were you getting at?

Lange: thanks for the anatomy information. So I guess there are actually three hands in this picture! It is getting more and more relevant as we speak! ;-)

King: It's an extremely underexposed digital shot that has been photoshopped and cropped beyond recognition. My thoughts? I had a line from Procul Harum's "Homburg" playing in my head. But after you asked, I checked and found out that my memory had failed me: They were actually not singing about a wrist watch at all ...
