Very effective use of the desaturation of most of the image with only a bit of color. The color used was also very effective. A highly pleasing image.

Oh, I quite like this. I usually don't like selective coloring, but this is nice. I love the dirty hands.

oh very nice!
i like the selective color even though i never tend to. but this one's catchy!
the texture of the dirt is awesome. without it i don't think it would have much impact.
high rates!

This says Tracy to me. Lovely, well done. I wish the vague, soft highlight at the top of the thumb, about 1/2 in from the left edge, were not there.
Love it. High marks.

Hey, Tom (not Tracy). I see I have complimented two people with this mistaken identity.
To confuse Tom with Tracy is to honor both (although comparing the bulk of your respective contributions, your styles differ considerably).

I think the selective colouring, in this case, detracts us from seeing the 'hand' as the main focus of the shot, and immediately takes us to that flower. outside of the theme, it's a nice photograph.

Great use of selective saturation as well.

Ana,
Remember zorilla's photo of the blind accordianist and the smoking girl and how you felt that the smoking girl was essential to the photo? In this case, I think that the colorful flower seems to be springing (pun intended) from the gritty, earth-covered hand. It is the power of the hand to bring forth beauty that, to me, is the theme of this image. The color in the flower is essential to the story.
But what do I know? I'm just making all this up. But the selective color, in this specific instance, works very well, IMHO.

I'm pretty torn on how to rate this one. I love the dirt on the hands contrasted with the flower. I think the choice of black and white really works.
But I also have a strong personal bias against isolating color like that--I think it's possibly the most tired of overdone technique since the advent of digital photography.

I really like this both because I can relate so well to it and also because of the selective saturation. Muddy, dirty hands aren't that pretty so what you have done here really works for me.

King, I thought about doing something with my lilacs because they are the only flowers I have out right now, but went a different route for my first shot. I will take the guess that this as mine as a huge compliment because I love Tom's work. ;-)

This was on my commenting list before it was to get featured, and now it got, well, congrats!
The selective color pretty much always grabs the audience, and it this shot it works very well.

King... To me, I open this photograph, and my first thought is "Purple!"
I gave it great scores, despite that initial reaction. Without the flower, the shot is just a hand....so I agree it's essential to the composition. But I don't think the colour selection was needed.
