Imagine the revolutions!!!

Tanja said 587 days ago:

woa, this says old age & and really great detail!
all 5's from me!
only wish he/she weren't wearing that watch.

Classy image. I love the black and white tones and wrinkles on the hands. Very nicely done.

This is an image of my aunt's hands who was a Naval and civilian surgical nurse for over 40 years. As a child, I marveled at her hands whenever she was carving the Thanksgiving turkey or doing chores around the house. She actually assisted in my late father's last operation.

The watch bears a special significance for me. She has had that same watch, a Timex for over 20 years and the band, a Twist-O-Flex was something she has always worn. Time makes all of us age, but for me, her service to humanity is timeless.

I think these hands have worked a lot...
I do not like the watch to be honest...and I wish there were a bit more light on the right.
But these hands....impressive!!

Wonderful character in the lines of the hands, and well composed with the deep black canvas. I also like the inclusion of the wrist watch as a measuring devise for the time these hands have seen.

I really like the inclusion of the watch. It makes the weathered hands more responsible.

King said 587 days ago:

Guess who. So tell me again...why are we not supposed to know that this is a Mark Kitaoka photo?

Was this posed? or is this an example of so-called street photography? I know you favor black backgrounds, but was there detail in the shadow areas that you chose to suppress?

Aside from all the fussing, this is a fabulous b/w image (that could have just a little bit more tone in the shadows--but maybe that's a flaw in this workplace monitor).

Mark, I have no idea how you mastered what you do so well in so short a time. I'll want an answer to that question the next time we meet, or you could just blurt it out here.

Highest marks.

At first I thought I didn't like the face of the wristwatch, but after studying the photo for a while I decided that I like it just fine and that it adds to the composition.

King said 587 days ago:

...the wristwatch comment was supposed to be the third paragraph. It got bumped down inadvertently.

beckn32 said 587 days ago:

Hmmm, it's fun to see that some like the watch while others don't. For me, the watch really gives this more interest. You need to include your twisted hair picture in this theme. It would be perfect.

pursang said 587 days ago:

beckn22, yes it is often interesting to read how everyone view the inclusion/exclusion of an element differently. It is one of the most interesting parts of WS for me. And as I mentioned to King on another image, I do NOT repost images from different themes even though they may fit. My purpose here to to view the work of others, comment and hope that my own work evokes constructive comments from others. That is how I learn.

King, thank you for taking the time to contemplate images as you do. I often have to revisit an image on different days to give an articulate comment, so I always appreciate others who do the same. I purposely darkened the right side of her hands, as my aunt is right handed, used her right hand to suture, clamp and manipulate many organs and passageways in the human body. Like I said, this is a very emotional shot for me, as it was taken at my late aunt's funeral service lunch. So I asked my aunt to step outside so that I could photograph her hands, as I regretted not taking a photograph of my late aunt the last time we were together.

There are two pairs of hands here people.
Imagine how many times those small ones have gone around, while the larger hands matured.

Classy image with a lot of character. Worthy of being featured for sure.

I'm glad your theme made it Mark. No wonder you were so keen, a great story done justice by such a striking image. Those hands really are something to behold...
