Tanja said 400 days ago:
reading the best book in the whole world are ya?!!
tobad the first 2 fingers ;), aren't sharp & crisp.
was this on purpose? could work with layers..mmh
most highest rates though!

First of all, a great shot.
Now to some crits,...
The DOF works very well with this kind of image, but it's not executed perfectly, imo the focus shouldn't be on the ring (with just a part of the finger visible) but then it's perfectly in focus where the finger is pointing - what is being read - so a slight change of angle would have helped...
The top of the book is a bit close to the border I'd prefer more space or cut off,...
then a minor thing but I don't know if I like it or not, the 23 which is right there, it's kind of neat but distracting at the same time!...
Anyways, high marks!

with DOF meaning shallow DOF... (does this make sence? Well, next time read my mind will you?)
cheers

Very nice DOF. High marks because I see my name :) Seriously, I find this shot comforting. Well composed also.

Stupendous. Great place for the hand to guide the eye. :)

There you go again, Tom. Beautiful work. Did you know that although I'm not a religious person I can sing the books of the new testament? Ask me sometime. Congratulations on another feature.
ChriZ...pay attention! You didn't mention what I take to be a sharpening (or masking) artifact along the top of the knuckle at the right edge of the frame. Which is it, Tom?
Tom said 399 days ago:
Good question King. I don't think it's a sharpening artifact.

It's a short white thread!
It could also be the glow of the hand,... holy hand...

Peter Disowns Jesus
54Then seizing him, they led him away and took him into the house of the high priest. Peter followed at a distance. 55But when they had kindled a fire in the middle of the courtyard and g again..they did not believe him before and not to this day.*had sat down together, Peter sat down with them. 56A servant girl saw him seated there in the firelight. She looked closely at him and said, "This man was with him."
57But he denied it. "Woman, I don't know him," he said.
58A little later someone else saw him and said, "You also are one of them."
"Man, I am not!" Peter replied.
59About an hour later another asserted, "Certainly this fellow was with him, for he is a Galilean."
60Peter replied, "Man, I don't know what you're talking about!" Just as he was speaking, the rooster crowed. 61The Lord turned and looked straight at Peter. Then Peter remembered the word the Lord had spoken to him: "Before the rooster crows today, you will disown me three times." 62And he went outside and wept bitterly.
The Guards Mock Jesus
63The men who were guarding Jesus began mocking and beating him. 64They blindfolded him and demanded, "Prophesy! Who hit you?" 65And they said many other insulting things to him.
Jesus Before Pilate and Herod
66At daybreak the council of the elders of the people, both the chief priests and teachers of the law, met together, and Jesus was led before them. 67"If you are the Christ,[d]" they said, "tell us."
Jesus answered, "If I tell you, you will not believe me, 68and if I asked you, you would not answer. 69But from now on, the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the mighty God."
70They all asked, "Are you then the Son of God?"
He replied, "You are right in saying I am."

*it is interesting that this reference was chosen. It should be lifted up with great meaning!
especially verse 67.
it breaks my heart to know that people didn't believe back then, and so many of us don't believe today!
King said 397 days ago:
Sorry to break your heart, Tanja. I was raised a Christian--a Nazarene, in fact. Nowadays, religion plays no role in my life except my concern for religious strife between peoples, the corrosive effect of religious fundamentalism, etc.
I am a great believer in the U.S. constitutional separation between church and state.

I believe this is a fine use of hands.
Black and white works perfectly.
