Relevant for sure. I might have concentrated on the wall to the right of the doorway, this framing introduces some level of distraction.
flipthom said 237 days ago:
hee hee....Beamer, I thought for sure you would say something about the blown out highlights in the back window. I purposely slaved over this photo just so you wouldn't say anything them...hee hee...and I do have quite a few of just that wall...but I thought it might be a bit two dimensional and boring so I included the doorway and the shadows of light flooding through.
As always, thanks for your comments. I guess they mean a lot to me if I'm looking at shots and thinking about what you might say :)

now that's a lot of graffiti! Wow!

The gang has been hard at work here. You may get dinged for the artificial color saturation.
King said 236 days ago:
...and maybe not.
flipthom said 236 days ago:
You're more right than you know about "the gang" King. The Bloods and the Crips frequent this old hotel and they often leave very "uplifting" messages to each other. That's why I do my photography here during the daytime, when the sun is bright and the color is nice and saturated : ) Thanks for the comment.

excellent contrast, the image really jumps out

Normally I find heavy colour saturation takes away from a photo, but in this case it gives it great visual punch and excellent contrasts. Considering how bright the outside light is, you did a great job of not completely blowing out the details through the window, which can be really difficult. High marks!!
flipthom said 236 days ago:
Thanks Dave! As I mentioned above, I tried really hard to navigate those highlights and I was honestly a bit disappointed with the results. If anyone reading this has some advice on how to handle this sort of situation, feel free to share. Thanks!

... wait for the sun to go down?
:P
Flatline said 235 days ago:
I think this might have actually been more interesting with a lower saturation. It's too bright for my taste... but I get the atmosphere. I can smell the piss and beer, the cigarette butts, the cold cement... and lemme tell ya, I'm pleased I'm not there right now. High marks, but low on Image Quality.

this is a great shot, the colors are vibrant, but yet there is still a moodiness you have captured in the shadowing and contrast. the place looks so abandoned that it is hard to picture the 'artists' at work!

great capture, the impact is strong.... lots of colors....

Judging by the number of ratings, folks a pushing for this to feature.. Seems a little contrasty, but that seems to be due to the harsh light. I like it

Thanks Stolen.
I'm really surprised at the response that I've gotten in terms of ratings and comments on this photograph. I honestly don't even care for the it, myself. The lighting is very harsh and that was something I was trying to control when I took it. The score after 13 ratings echoed my distaste. Since then, I guess some people have approved of it or at least have had something to say about it. Fine by me : )
Thanks for the comment.
Oh and if anyone is interested in this place, it's quite the graffiti paradise and there's some cool history behind it too.
