I'm not 100% about the centered composition, or the blown out areas on the right, but it's a very striking image, and well taken. The shoes are lovely. Great perspective. Was this theatre?

David - a negative qhost, that's a good thought. Thanks
Geoff - the background boxes, stacked in a pyramid (outside the frame), dictated the central position of the figure, and I sort of accepted that's how it is. The blown out areas on the right I don't like .. I suppose I need to get to grips with Photoshop to deal with this.
The picture was taken with the camera sitting on the floor (it has a swivel monitor) at Rachel Whiteread's 'Embankment' exhibit at Tate Modern in London.

Ghosts are meant to bring fear into people. They are meant to creep our in dark places, not a well lit place with white boxes behind them. The idea of a walking person blurred due to long exposure is also over-done in this theme. This photo lacks any significant impact and the composition could be better (although it is better than some).

Also, I just read your comment about the overexposed boxes and how you need to learn Photoshop. One other thing you need to learn is that highlights that are pure white (blown out), photoshop won't help you with. They're pure white and can't be brought back to life.

Nice black&white effect.

Hi Daniel, I agree the stereotype ghost may well bring fear to people and creep out of dark places, and therefore this image doesn't fit the stereotype. Yep, you're right, too many long exposures with humans gliding through the frame in this theme. And, all this, with an average composition deadens the impact.
Also thanks for the Photoshop lesson - you can't bring blown out highlights back to life!
btw, this is a picture of a real ghost - when I pressed the button on the camera I could only see an evenly lit bunch of inside/out boxes.

Your're welcome Tony. To add to my previous comment: I really like your very contemporary ghost. The black/white effect is spooky and the blown-out side of it adds to the other-wordly feeling of it all. What I'd really like to know is what's she's doing with her hands!

Hi Nynke, you've made me wonder if this maybe an angel and not a ghost!

you have done a negative--most ghosts are white on black, yours if black on white--good job!
