Here's an image to be savored for a minute before rating it. I get a powerful, emotional message from this image...almost Dantean. There are some things that I think detract, which I choose to ignore because I like the image so much, but here are my "critical" observations. The imagely is heavy in black at the bottom--wouldn't hurt to crop a little tighter, maybe. The raindrops on the glass don't seem to add to the impact, although they are pleasing shapes, convey wetness and make the scene more bleak--I simply find them a bit distracting.
Otherwise, awesome.

@king
I'm comming out of the darknes to chase the ghosts behind the steamy window.. can you see it? :-))

King said 567 days ago:

Vernon...you mock me.

VernonTrent said 567 days ago:

king, I don't mock you :-) I'm realy enjoying your comments. thanks for that.

the image is a scan from a tri-tone print. partially hand coloured with india ink.

King said 567 days ago:

I thought it was a person joining the ghosts in the background, but not going gently into that good night...and that's my preferred interpretation.

VernonTrent said 567 days ago:

@king
a good interpretation... yes, I like it!

King said 567 days ago:

Congrats again, Vernon.

I am assuming the blobs in the background are supposed to be otherworldly....but, they are to me, a little too obscured to be discernible as anything. I also agree with King that the weighted bottom is a distraction. The look on the subjects face looks more like fright, than that of a "ghost chaser", unless he is channeling Rambo. A bit too much explanation is needed to get this one. Scary image, but not a ghostly sight to me.

Hardly a 'ghost' but featured none the less. No matter the processing, this really does not enlighten. I must confess, this theme really does nothing for me, having mainly involved that half exposure approach to produce the ghost effect. so, I'm out of this theme. Just not my thing. At least this is a different approach.

I like this image, but I've seen people more fastidious about the relevance.

photografica said 567 days ago:

It's a powerful image for sure. 'Mute anguish' is close to what I feel from it, but relevance aside, it's a great shot. I'd like to hear more about the technical details... Is it a self portrait?

VernonTrent said 565 days ago:

@photografica

it's not a self. it was taken by a friend of mine.
postprocessing was tri-tone and enhancements with india ink. it was for a project with the main theme "fear"

I'm wondering sometimes how ghosts looks like... did someone of you ever seen a ghost? perhaps you can sketch it and show... :))

to me, ghosts exist in our imagination, to give surreal things a face or a body... it can be everything.... not only motion blur with long exposure :)

yes, it's surreal and depends on how you present it.

thanks for your feedback and thoughts.

For me, a ghost is a white sheet whith two holes for the eyes, nothing else. ;-)
You're raising the question of the subjectivity involved in rating the relevance.
That"s why I suggested we could also rate creativity, for which <<<i would give you a five for every picture you post...

beautiful colors, so much emotion and subtlety. Another of the very wonderful pictures you post :)
