wow .. this is excellent .. I love the composition and the sharpness of whatever it is. Good choice using black and white.

I remember seeing this before! This is really cool.
I wonder if it might have more impact if tightly cropped though? The dark clounds on the left ares sort of distracting and don't really add anything tonally imo. It's the center ball and the dramatic clouds right around it that are the real eye candy.

awesome shot! beautifully executed.

personally, i like the darkness on the edges - and would like to see more of it on the right. i think it sort of gives the impression that the kite (is it a kite?) mimics the sky.

Thanks everyone. It's one of my favourites.
I can see what you mean Brandon by the left hand side, I think I'll play around with it a bit more sometime, try to balance the left and right a bit more, possibly darken up the right as photoflavor suggests, see how it looks.
I did try with the cropping a little tighter, but found it changed the whole feeling and meaning of the picture, it become less about a man made object surrounded by nature and more just about the man made object. I had had my eye on the piece for several years and was waiting for the right sky. Just happened to be in the right place at the right time.... finally.
For those who don't want to know what it is, stop reading now. :-)
It's actually a sculpture suspended about twenty meters high, between the National Gallery of Australia and The High Court. The sculpture is 'Diamonds' by Neil Dawson. It's the second work to be hanging there, the first 'Globe' (which was of the earth), by the same artist, blew up, struck by lightening, well that's "urban story" about town anyway.
Cheers !

That's very interesting. If you cloned out the wires, it would look like a UFO. :)
I also like the tones in the clouds. The left side, though, feels just dark enough to throw things a little off balance... especially near the bottom.
