I'm not sure how relevant I feel this, as a portrait (because it feels more like a scene). But, there's really something about this photo that I dig. I think it has to do with the relationship between the pensive look on the woman's face and the shadow on the door. There's an intangible tension between the two. The camera accessories on the table are slightly distracting. Still, a very interesting shot.

There is definately drama going on in this shot. One could cut the tension with a knife I think.

I really liked the perceived story/drama in this shot, right up until I saw the camera gear in shot, then it ruined it for me (I guess it killed the storyline that was running in my head)

So close to perfect - did you really need to keep your gear on the table? It could have been a timeless shot.
Nonetheless, high marks from me. I like the tension between the woman at the table and the person silhouetted in teh other room.

Hey, thanks to everyone for commenting and rating and everything.
The issue with leaving the lens and card on the table is something I've heard before. At the time I took the shot it was intentional; It was supposed to be about the mother (shadow) / daughter dynamic and how I also fitted into that, the lens and stuff also showing that the photographer was part of the scene. I realise now that that isn't portayed well enough to properly justify including the photographic paraphernalia. I can photoshop most of it out though so its not a total loss. I can see why it bothers you. I still like the idea that in such an 'almost timeless' shot, there is a photographer present- something often lost within photos.Anyway, yeah, cheers, I'm digressing. Thanks for the useful feedback

I find this image moving, but wish the composition was tighter. I really like the shadow in the hallway, but wish I didn't have to move that far to grab it. Great tones and hue.

Great set-up - I think it would have had way more dramatic impact if the camera gear was not on the table.
