This might very well be one of my favorite photos of all time. Ever.

From the inappropriate make up to the idea of incarceration, I find this a really unpleasant image.

Interesting polarities so far :-) In real life this is an unstaged photo. She is indeed pleading to get in the house as she has to go to the bathroom. The make up was a total suprise as she is not allowed to wear makeup. It had apparently been put on by a same age friend for a talent show occuring with several friends in our yard. The result for me was so potent just because of those unexpected elements and set off( and still does) a flood of emotions about transient childhood, seperation and sadness. I'll be interested to see the rest of the comments :-)

This tugs at my throat. There's something wrenching about her expression. You've really captured a moving moment.

Interesting angle! I think that her hands especially convey a lot of emotion, in addition to her face.

However, I have to say that this feel a little too forced. I apologize if this is real emotion on the child's part!!! But it looks to me like she is just playing... Maybe it is also because I find it hard to believe that the photographer would just stand there and take a picture while she is outside looking like this. I hope you let her come inside after this photo?! :)
