I like high contrast photos, but I think the shadows just fall in the wrong places here. I also feel like the photo, while being a close shot, isn't sharp enough to give us good detail on the face. You can see the hint of lines, but it just isn't quite sharp.

That large white mass behind the head is a bit too distracting and pulls my eyes away from the subject
