What a wonderful face. Love the tone and the eyes. The edge blur is fine but for some reason it feels like the patterned hood should be sharp all around.

Very nice.

What an amazing shot, tones, dof everything but relevance. For some reason when I think of drama, I don't think of smiling. This is a very striking shot.

I like her face, it's quite expressive. There's something about the composition that bothers me, though, but I'm not sure what. I think it's one of those in-between compositions, where it should either be cropped tighter or have more around her. Nice and sharp, though! I love that you can really see the detail in her face.

I've always really liked this shot. She reminds me of someone I know, but I cant quite figure out who. Wonderful capture.

For some reason, I find this photo a little difficult to look at. I'm not sure whether it's because it's so close up or whether it's because of the really sharp textures of her face. I guess I feel too close to her! I think maybe the very shallow dof contributes to that.
I also find the conversion to b&w to be a bit strange. It seems like you used the blue or green channels to a much higher extent than the traditional red, which brings out a lot of detail in her face to be sure, but also gives me the impression that her skin is really tan and weathered. I am not sure if this is really the case if I were to see her in person (or just in color).
(Of course, I have no idea how you converted this to b&w. I could be totally wrong!)
However, I *really* like the expression on her face, and I do like the softness of her hair as the focus quickly recedes. But I am distracted by the toning and the details, so I thought I'd share that. Hope you don't mind.
Congrats on making it to the front page. I *do* think that this is a good dramatic portrait and deserves to be on the front page!

Thanks everyone.
G4L: it would have helped had you qualified your statement.
Delineated: yes, I did intend this to be a landscape format shot, but the background was overly distracting, hence the square crop.
luminouslens: you're quite right - channel mixer and the blue channel - and you're right again, she wasn't quite this tanned and weathered in real life, but I do think this style did her personality justice.

Great shot, Dave. I have already saw it on your web site weeks ago.

I like the skin, kind of metallic, almost gold tones.
Not keen on the blur around the edges.
She certainly looks like a character, I don't know, it kind of feels like an advert for dentures or something...I can't seem to take it seriously. Not that it has to be taken seriously of course, just thought I'd say.
It does have a lot of impact this shot, it's right up close and personal.

What a cracking portrait. She looks like she's got some funny stories to tell :) Her eyes are full of life.
