is this a pun or a literal interpretation (i.e. dramatic lighting, or drama (stage) lighting)?

Very good. I'd like to have had more light on the face of the man. He seems sort of cut off because of the lack of details in his face, and the tight bottom crop. I probably would have cropped out the brighter puff of light on the left, because it doesn't enhance the image.

But evaluating this on the lighting, it is dramatic.

The drama comes as much from the colours as the light. It makes me wonder what the occasion is.
