yes it is a beluga. good eye. i captured this shot at the vancouver aquarium a few weeks ago. you can actually see the beluga's live in action.

you have to view during the daytime in vancouver to see them though.

What an interesting pose. I'm still not sure after studying for a while exactly what I'm seeing. It's certainly curvy. I think I'd like a little more contrast for clarity though.

thanks all for the comments. yeah, it's totally a beluga whale. a very interesting one at that. if it's hard to make out, it's because it is swimming upside-down in the water.

i would have liked to make this image more clear, but when you're shooting through glass and like 30 ft of water, it is really difficult to get what you want.

it was also hard to process this photo as the darks were already dark, and the lights were really light. it was a hard one that's for sure.

I was pretty sure it was a beluga whale swimming upside down, but I didn't know they rippled like that...I thought it may have been some kind of surrealistic image manipulation, perhaps done with a scanner!

no manipulation i assure you. this was one screwed up looking whale. i thought it might be pregnant or something and when i asked... sure enough, it wasn't.
