btw...very high marks from me. Is that a fixed focal length wide angle? 21 mm on a standard 35mm camera? I'm actually interested in the technical details. Was this shot on film? digital?

King: This was taken with my Canon 20D with a 10mm lens. It took me about 20 minutes to work up the courage to stand on the very edge, lean foward, and point my camera down. It usually is a difficult lighting situation because of the sheer cliff walls, but when I was there this time the clouds diffused the light perfectly. Aside from cropping out a couple boats there is no other Photoshop work on this one. Thanks for the high marks.

@theatresky
Thanks. Do you mean this lens?
EF-S 10 - 22 mm F3.5 - F4.5 USM
(16 - 35 mm equiv. FOV, 2.2x zoom)
The reason I ask is that I'm a fan of super-wide angle photography, which is often problematic with digital cameras with their reduced image area vis-a-vis standard 35mm film. I don't own a digital camera yet, and may never own the one I want because I have expensive tastes but zero budget.

one of my favorite in the theme. glad I came to look today, so I could be a part of the voting for this image.

Curvy, majestic and well captured. Cool submission.
Ana said 578 days ago:
I wish I could vote for this twice. It's superb.

King: That is the lens! I love that lens. It was worth every penny I spent on it.
cferroni said 578 days ago:
Grat shot! I only with there was abit more 'punch' in the tones.
CraigMartin said 577 days ago:
Gorgeous shot, and nice take on the theme.
CraigMartin said 577 days ago:
@King - so, if you don't own a digital camera (aside from your scanner ;-)), how do you get all your amzing shots into digital form?
King said 577 days ago:
@Craig,
Thanks for the compliment. I'll answer your question on my featured Snowglobe shot, so as not to steal Kevin's thunder.

Just gorgeous! High marks all around.
Please reveal where this is.

Love the high horizon! Great tones. Dig the dark water--polarizer? (I would expect the cloudy-bright sky to be reflected.) Would it have been possible to get a somewhat higher vantage point to keep the foreground rocks from intruding into the river w/o fundamentally changing the composition?

Beautiful landscape!

This photo must be a featured!
King said 577 days ago:
@mitchh...Higher vantage point? The guy was leaning over the precipice with a 10mm lens, for Pete's sake! (but you didn't know that, did you?) :>)
King said 577 days ago:
...oh, and congratulations, Kevin. I think you earned this feature for sheer temerity.
Jeff said 577 days ago:
I also think this is a superb photo (but stay away from cliffs - don't get the idea that you need to outdo this photo if it means finding another ledge to walk farther out on. This photo is perfect as is. No amount of ledge walking is going to let you get a better shot than this one.) Well done. ...and thanks for the lens info. I shoot with a 20d and have been wondering what my next purchase would be. Now I know.
VernonTrent said 577 days ago:
congrats.
the 10-22 is a crazy lens. I use it a lot :-)
mitchh said 576 days ago:
Kevin (& King): I generally tend to make compositional comments with the assumption that the photographer has complete freedom of movement, although this is often sadly untrue. There have been many times I've wanted a sky hook! In this case, I didn't know if it would be possible to get higher by going a little left or right, not advocating suicide for the shot. It is, after all, a lovely shot, which I rated highly. And I'm very please that it was featured. Congrats, Kevin!

@mitchh...I know...I was just pulling your leg.
However, my hunch i that you haven't leaned over a precipice with a super wide-angle lens, either. All in fun.

I was taking a walk in my neighborhood the other day and saw something just like this, but the light wasn't right so I kept walking.
Holey, moley! How stupendous. How much did you pay for that camera?
