I like the tones, textures and contrast in this image, as well as the color you've selected. it is well-executed and an appropiriate illustration of the theme. It doesn't have any emotional or dramtic tug on me, however.

The composition seems a bit cattywumpus to me (off vertical, loopsided) and I can't for the life of me figure out why, if one is fortunate enough to own a $4,000 f1.2 lens, one is compelled to shoot wide open (speaking in general, here). Is depth of field such an evil thing among WS photographers? I think f5.6 would have been a lovely f-stop for this image, f8 even, and the curves wouldn't go in and out of focus in such a distracting manner.

LOL, yeah, I am not particularly fond of the DoF on this either. It was shot in very poor light conditions:
Exposure Time (sec): 1/2
Aperture: 4.0
I tried to get as as much DoF as I could guv, I really did guv...;-)

@ Carlo

1/2 sec @ f4.0 =
1/4 sec @ f2.8 =
1/8 sec @ f2.0 =
1/15 sec @ f1.4

All too slow to hand hold and expect great sharpness or DOF in this image. So did you use a tripod? If yes, why not f22? If not, why not? ALWAYS HAVE A TRIPOD WITH YOU...EVEN A MINIATURE TRIPOD.

Just kidding. I've hand-held photos for a full 8 seconds and had excellent sharpness. It's a handy talent...I mean becoming corpse-like for a few seconds at a time. It makes girls nervous, but it helps.

LOL, you should consider comedy as an additional career! But thanks, yes, tripod with me has become a goal, not always achieved but I try and beat the laziness and ignore the "Do you REALLY need THAT with you all the time?" from the other half, who only recently stopped asking if I really needed the CAMERA with me at all times...

Carlo,
I carry a plastic table top tripod (very small and light) with fixed-length legs. With that, a small Manfrotto ball-socket head. The tripod has a velco strap that I can use to anchor it to a post, rail, chair back-etc. It is very handy and I hardly notice that I am carrying it.

Congratulations on overcoming spousal resistance to some of the telltale behaviors that reveal a love of photography, which is so clearly evident in your work. Now if I can just get my wife to let me buy that $12,000 (including taxes) Canon outfit I've got my eye on.

Nice curvy abstract.

Ooooh Ahhh. Very cool shot. Love the black and white. Love the textures. Love the black background and DOF. Did I mention that I really like this?

I love it when I am the 13th rater, and as soon as I hit submit, it features! Well done cferonni, it is well deserved.

King said 562 days ago:

Carlo,

I feel compelled to use my usual dislaimer, which, I see, George Illes has stolen:

...but what do I know? Congratulations, Carlo

cferroni said 562 days ago:

Thanks to all for the ratings and comments! And, King, your thoughtful and witty comments were worth a thousand ratings...;-)

King said 561 days ago:

...but Carlo, I gave you high ratings--didn't I tell you? Only after that did I sound off.
