I really like the image except for me it seems that the texture is washed out in the overexposed side areas. But the image itself is very, very striking and attractive.

Definitely hits the mark on the theme. I'm finding it a bit static. Perhaps if there was something different about just one of the tubes it would add that extra oomph.

OK, I may be burning a whole lot of bridges here...
And please do not missunderstand this comment, cause I am a massive Gorin-Images fan, really, the purple crate and eggs was fantastic! (as are so many other of her images; Three, Arrow, Selective focus).
But I dont get why this is being featured, sorry.
Can someone explain?

bslomovic: Your comment doesn't burn any bridges with me. I am as perplexed by the "featured image" algorithm as you are. I like the assembled group of images that it seems to put together for each theme though, and I notice that there is no "common characteristic" to which images get featured.

I submitted three entries for this theme because I think it is a very cool theme. Interestingly, my favorite one of the three did NOT get featured ;) Clearly, I am clueless about how featured shots are selected, and so is everyone else...and IMHO that's GOOD.

This image (and others of mine that have been featured) had pretty high overall ratings, and particularly, high ratings in the "relevance" and "impact" categories. I think those two categories are important.

So hopefully that information provides some insight.

Also......I am a guy. ;)

I am glad you took the comment in good spirit and form.
As I said, I am a really huge fan of your stuff and I loved the other image of yours selected this week.
Just trying to understand the site and the people involved a little better. Cheers.

Hmmmm. I guess maybe the shadows are elliptical. But these are the ends of perfectly circular PVC pipes, so I would say they are definitely circles...just not viewed from head-on.
