Very interesting take on the theme. I love the subtle lighting and the great tones. The modern light fixtures combined with the antique pews make for an interesting church.

Beautiful B&W tones, wonderful subject.

Thanks for the appreciative remarks.
This is the Friends Meeting House, Providence, Rhode Island. A Quaker church.

This is such an interesting configuration for a church. Very good tones in this one King.

Wow, I am just going through these shots and came across your name (BTW love the Pretentious Prat)
Anyway I love this shot, the tones are wonderful and I am fairly certain it is a scan of an older image but you did a great scan job. I am really surprised at the scores but then again I shouldn't be.:-)

pursang, mtmartini,
Thanks for your comments. This is taken from a scan of a 35mm color negative taken in 2005, so not so old. I figured this wouldn't be rated highly, but I think it is interesting and wanted to share. They man in the photo is a friend who is a member of this church.

King Haven't seen you around much. Good to see you.
I wasn't around for the churches theme, but I have to say I am shocked at the score for this shot. It should have rated much higher IMO. It's a very striking image and very unique.

CaptureThis,
Thanks very much. I'm not at all shocked at the average score. I have a theory of how to get featured on WeeklyShot and employed it successfully, in my opinion, getting around 20 features in a row--which Vernon Trent easily matched and will probably eclipse, even without a theory. He's very competitive. :>)
This shot was not planned to be competitive, even though I hoped it would be appreciated by a few. Getting featured increases feedback and conversation, but so does simply commenting on the photographs posted by others...which I also have not been doing much.
My lack of W.S. participation has had a very positive effect on the moods of some people (including my sweet wife). I've also been able to get a lot more work done.
However, I'm not dropping out of WeeklyShot and will probably be back to being a regular contributor when fall rolls around.
Cheers to all.

Now who is competitive? You fool no one Mr.Douglas. :-)))
King said 471 days ago:
Nor should *you* (Tracy) be the one to cast the first stone. And we ALL know about Mark.
I have a character flaw (well, several, but let's talk about this one). When I'm in a competitive situation (say a nice friendly game of ping pong), I like to find out if I can compete against my opponent. If I can compete, I often loose interest in winning for the sake of winning and start to look for other diversions, such as trick shots, or playing left-handed. Sometimes this befuddles my opponent, which is probably part of the plan. I typically lose these games, but sometimes I improvise some great shots.
I'm kind of that way with WeeklyShot. From time to time I have posted things simply to get tongues wagging (so to speak), or to make a point about the current theme--and I know I'm not the only one who does this...e.g. Montage's contribution to the Churches theme:
http://www.weeklyshot.org/theme/churches/response/28/
However, as I expressed above, some of that effort is wasted if few are going to click on the thumbnail, rate the image and join in the conversation.

This is a little off topic but it refers to the competitiveness you refer too (and ping pong too).
When me and my husband play ping pong we have this competitiveness that has made it so that the games go way long. We started to play by a "rule" that says you must switch hands between each shot...makes for a very interesting and somewhat comical game. You should try it it's fun(ny).
In terms of WS, I have learned to really like the subtle approach over straight-forward to many of the themes. Outside the box so to speak. I don't always like the "obvious" relevance. I will often submit one that is subtle along with one that is more or even blatently obvious.
I am competitive, but I know that it terms of photgraphy, my butt is so whooped by others that I don't stand a snowball's chance in...

Oh king my comment was very tongue in cheek. I am incredibly competitive, to be certain, but when it comes to this medium I am not as much as in other things. And as for Mark, I am constantly humbled by his ability to see things I don't, we are now taking many of the same shots(a look at our blogs recently will confirm this) but quite often with a different angle or approach. We have talked about perhaps doing a show one day where we both have the same image (subject matter taken at the same time) but from differing perspectives.
But I digress, my comment was a poor attempt at humor. :-)
pursang said 470 days ago:
Mr. King. Even though you are 'not' participating, you find a way to insert yourself into this group. And glad I am to have you back, even if it is just commenting right now.
Yes, I am VERY competitive in things like closed course road racing, handgun shooting, or betting of any kind. The amount of money means nothing and often a dollar is the high end of my betting range. But for photography, I am only competitive within the sphere of what I am trying to do - improve. Pursuing any artform is a lifelong journey, one I certainly hope to enjoy for the rest of my life.
I have had the pleasure of meeting you, George, Vernon, Jarrett and of course falling in love with Tracy because of this medium. And countless strangers who I would have never known had it not been for my lens. People like Thelma, Anna and Kadenjack are people who I've corresponded with and feel a kinship beyond photography.
I compete only with what I view as the best I can do at any moment in photography. Now if we want to talk about racing or marksmanship, then that is a WHOLE DIFFERENT story.
Take care and hope to see you in October my friend.
King said 470 days ago:
@Tracy...I knew you were kidding. I'd love to see that show.
@Mark...Your remarks are well received. But how about ping pong? I'll play you left handed.
@CaptureThis...the fact that your work is often subtle is one of the things that I most enjoy about browsing your user page. I'll try the left-right ping pong game, but my wife is very ambidextrous, so I'll be in trouble from the first serve.

Thanks for the mention Mark. We enjoy our fellowship on WS as well. Like King, we just haven't been getting on much lately. I'm sure that will evolve back in the other direction again. I know for me, I'm still looking in, just not shooting or commenting as much.
