Haha, funny. I like this shot, though perhaps you can find some way to make the person stand out a bit more against the truck. The tones are quite similar, so it may be tough, but as it is he's quite lost in the frame. also, the sky is blown out above the truck. Tough photo to shoot in any case.

Simon, I appreciate you taking the time to comment on photos (some people JUST rate, without making a comment at all) but I've seen the past few comments you've made, and you say nothing positive to anyone. It's just as easy to say, "I think you could have focused this differently, but this glass sure is broken" as it is to say "bad DOF." Had I come into this shot of yours and said, "horrible lighting, very bad, nothing." would that not make you feel a bit differently than the way I chose to word my statement? Thank you again for commenting.
:)

I'd have to echo Ana's sentiments here...
I had been thinking the same thing seeing some of your comments, such as "very bad", or "nothing".
We're all for criticism here; be tough and heartless if you want, but the key is to be constructive. In my opinion, even the harshest comments are welcome if they can help the photographer improve his/her work.
So, maybe just keep that in mind in the future when rating/commenting on photos here at WS.

I think I would've liked this one better if there had been more detail in the shadow areas.

Nice capture, but I see the lower part underexposed, with complete loss of details in the black pants on the person, and in the lower area of the vehicle.

black pants in front of dark vehicle in shadow of huge chocholate factory with bright east sky at sunset time... where to expose? :D
Ana said 536 days ago:
Oh, there's a lot that could be done with this shot. I had a great time working on it. I was really able to bring out a lot of the bottom part of the photo using levels. But I'll just take some of the chocolate from that factory. Forget the photograph!

This is a great stereotypical broken down vehicle image. The hood (is that bonnet for you across the pond folks?) up really tells the story.
I think the picture suffers from lack of detail in the truck itself. The dark body gets overwhelmed by the blown out sky. Some selective levels adjustments in photoshop could help it.

I did miss the person until I saw Ana's first comment. I just thought that dark form was part of the truck. I say expose for the guy on the truck and replace the sky with one of the ones in King's sky folders. Then put a dog in the picture. ;-) Just kidding, I'm taking a shot at King there.

comon folks, dont forget: monitors are liers! :D
kadenajack said 536 days ago:
Since monitors are all we have to see the images presented here, I think as the photographer you have to make some allowances for that in your presentation. I see lots of talk about how things I see here look in print, but since we're not all in a room taking shots at each other's work, that point is pretty much moot.
Having said all that, this image does show up a little better here on my new monitor at work than it did at home.

oh, I wish that person weren't so dark. almost missed him/her? great take, though!
