This is one of those images that just begs to become the simple thing of beauty that it could be...the crane, the streetlight, the building and the tree do nothing for this, IMHO, but I can certainly understand why you took the photo.

It reminds me of the of the dramatic images taken in the aftermath of the 9/11 World Trade Center disaster.

If I were to guess, I'd say this looks like new construction, and it doesn't seem to say 'broken' to me at all. Though, given the context, I'm sure that's not the case, and I do see the crane in background...

this seems to me, like a framing for a building? as if it's being built? I could be wrong, and maybe it's what is left after a storm or some type of destruction? or maybe it's a billboard??

It's not immediately obvious to me what is broken, but I like the unusual angle and the back-lighting. It makes you look twice.

Thanks everybody. OK ... as always: a local context. And I know the relevance factor is not really visible. Anyhow: This is 2005 and this is where an old glorious wooden house disappeared in a violent fire that lasted almost two days. A new building was being erected. The beams came with a plastic coating -- that was broken in the first spring storm.
