ultrawide lens effect. is there something else to say?

Cool breaks.

SeekingFocus said 493 days ago:

@vahala,

That's for you to decide! If I told you what it meant I'd be a storyteller, rather than a photographer. =)

Ana said 493 days ago:

ah, but aren't you a story teller already, once you click?
AND......There IS something else to say.

The day the world almost ended was dry, hot and crazy, truth be told. We entered what we thought was the real world, but it was slightly above (or below, we still can't decide) the rest of what was left of this place. Once the ground began to open up under our feet, there wasn't much left to do, but wait....
SO we waited..and the earth began to break under the stress of our negative thoughts. It was like being in the middle of a Peter Pan episode. Happy thoughts!! Everyone, happy thoughts! The ground was silent........

(always more to say...always)

Ana,

Thanks, you're right. I just meant that photos are always open to interpretation, and if I were to tell everyone what this photo 'meant', the real meaning would be distorted.

Your interpretation is perfect. But so is anyone else's. For argument's sake, here's what I wrote this morning when I posted this same shot to my website, here:
http://www.seekingfocus.com/photo/archive/and-the-earth-fell-apart-at-my-feet

"This shot was done in a dry creek bed in Big Bend National Park, near the Rio Grande. It was a really bizzare place to stumble upon; Really dark, and distorted. I felt like I had wandered into another world, where the underworld was merging with the world above the surface..."

Ana said 493 days ago:

I wasn't really replying to you....I was replying to the comment made by vahala.....

:)
there's always more to say. Always.

Ana said 493 days ago:

and you're right.... it's all interpreted by the person seeing the photo....

You're very right.

Ah, Big Bend...one of my favorite places, but so hard to get there. What motivated you, Jason, to make the long trek? Did you drive?
Where can we find more photos from your trip?

Congratulations on this--well done.

What an awesome photo!

Another great feature that I missed out on rating. You take a few hours off over the weekend to have a life, and two photos get featured while you're not looking. I would have given high marks for this nice one too. Do you have a color version?

SeekingFocus said 492 days ago:

@King,

I love it there. I went first with my father when I was perhaps 11 years old. I've been back four times since. It's just a great place to unwind for a while and not see another person for a few days on end... I need that kind of solitude every now and again! =)

I did drive... 6700 miles in all. I actually hit 11 national parks in just over three weeks. It was quite a trip.

I've been working on getting a travelogue done up, but it's taking much longer than expected. I had more than 600 digital files to sift through, not to mention TONS of film of all sorts! Of course, you guys at WS get top priority, so this is the place to be to see more! I also post occasionally to my website, SeekingFocus.com (was that a shameless plug?)

@kadenajack,

What were you thinking? Who needs a life when you have WS? We're your family, your friends, and your future... Muahahahahahaha.

And, there was not so much color to speak of in this shot. The ground was grey and white to begin with, so only my jeans actually had any color.

@everyone

Thanks again for all the great comments and another feature!
