where do i get my shield? : )

King said 646 days ago:

Just clowning, everyone.

I've run out of images that I'm interested in posting, so I hope this makes at least one person smile.

It's a joke and no offense is intended.

King said 646 days ago:

There have been some *great* bridge images posted so far, including some that pushed the limits of Relevance, yet were featured. Hooray!

And let's not forget all the delightful, funny and beautiful images that were not featured, some high ly Relevant, some less so.

I value the variety of humor in both the submissions and the comments in this Theme.

Good night.

P.S. - Ana, you get a gold shield.

Montage said 646 days ago:

Just what is it you are trying to say? ;)

philippe said 646 days ago:

Hehe... I think I know who's behind this...

philippe said 646 days ago:

... I'm not sure this is relevant, though...

:O)))

Lemmingstone said 646 days ago:

For kicks I'd love to see this featured. Very funny and well done. Impact, Composition and Technique also excellent. I have a short list of suspects so I guess I will see if I'm close.

Lemmingstone said 646 days ago:

Yep. King you are a very funny guy.

kadenajack said 646 days ago:

I don't recognize the authority of the WSRP, so there.

Jay said 646 days ago:

Difficult to focus on the image with all that cr*p around it ;)

Shame, as it looks like a really strong picture.

Jay said 646 days ago:

* but it did make me smile, so it achieved its purpose :)

VernonTrent said 646 days ago:

graphic standard enforcement :-)))
you saved my day :)

eterisk said 646 days ago:

I can´t see much of the bridge, only the big disturbing frame.

CSD said 646 days ago:

wtf? :o

King said 646 days ago:

This is weird. With 13 ratings, this ridiculous parody got higher ratings than many of my more earnest efforts:
* Relevance: 3.29
* Impact: 3.36
* Composition: 3.15
* Technique: 3.15
* Quality: 2.92
* Overall: 3.174

Thanks for all the comments. Enjoy the rest of a week of bridges.

one of the reasons (among many) that I like to comment on shots, is to see who posted *after a shot. For example, your shot....I can see 6 of the people that had to rate on your shot so they could post their own. I see that Vernon posted shot and didn't make many comments on the ones he must have had to rate, but he did for a few.... but it also gives you a small sample of who really did rate your shot, and why you might have faired better for this, than for others. Interesting study.

mtmartini said 646 days ago:

25 for cheekiness. :) I would love to see this bridge without the framing though.

King said 646 days ago:

Ana,
An admiral intellectual pursuit, then!

King said 646 days ago:

Tracy,
I'll post the image in all its glory on my website in a day or two and let you know when it is available for viewing.

Thanks!

Flatline said 646 days ago:

Hahahaha... Good work.

CraigMartin said 646 days ago:

High marks for humour and creativity...now I can't wait to see who this is.

King said 646 days ago:

Folks,
If you want to see the image without the other junk, go here:
http://www.kingdouglas.com/WeeklyShot/Images/Forbidden-bridge.jpg

This was shot in 1980 inside the Forbidden City, Beijing. The image has technical weaknesses and the light wasn't right, so I wasn't interested in trying to overhaul it for W.S.

George said 645 days ago:

Ha ha ha!!! King! You FB, you!!

psychodudu said 645 days ago:

King or philippe....lol.

psychodudu said 645 days ago:

I knew it...could that also be why you got high marks, because those of us who have got to know each others' styles a little "benefit" or "suffer" accordingly. I love this because it's fun, it shows ingenuity, and it pokes fun at all the people like me, who take life a bit too seriously sometimes.........ahem...

psychodudu said 645 days ago:

When I said "high", I meant more than the other rubbish you put up....lol.

King said 645 days ago:

George,
I made this just for you.

King said 645 days ago:

psychodudu,
I was poking fun at people like me. I don't have the courage to poke fun at people like you. :>)

I'm starting to get irritated or alarmed (not sure which)...I posted this for comments, but the ratings are, as I said above, higher than I've received for many of my serious entries. Maybe I should go into comedy...I have a good start in humiliating myself in public.

Thanks for posting three comments in a row!

philippe said 645 days ago:

I've checked the original. What technical weaknesses are you talking about? Seriously, I'd be interested to know.

ArneG said 645 days ago:

Wicked :o)

King said 645 days ago:

philippe,
Thanks for checking the other image, which was scanned from a Kodachrome slide. The technical weaknesses are masked by my efforts in Photoshop to overcome them. If I were better in Photoshop, I might have been able to create a satisfactory image, which this is not, in my opinion.

1. The photo was handheld and shot with a wide aperture, so it isn't as sharp as desired, even at the point of focus, and the depth of field is inadequate for the subject.
2. The original image is tilted, again due to being hand held and without paying adequate attention. After straightening the image, I had to clone the left and right edges of the frame to keep from cropping through the people ...you can easily see the cloning on the left, once you know to look for it.
3. Because of the location and quality of the light, the desired tonal separation, which would allow one to clearly distinguish each section of the bridge from the other sections, is absent. My efforts to gain tonal separation between the various bridge sections has left the people too contrasty, with poor tonal quality, and the overall image muddy.

This shot is just not pleasing to me in execution, although it was quite pleasing to see it in person.

Thanks again.

Relevance? It's a bridge, isn't it?
