Wonderful. The addition of the cityscape silhouette really adds something.

bbence, i was going for something a little different by offering a bridge as part of its surroundings in larger context. thanks for the comment :-)

Thinking aloud: I'd like to try and get a discussion going on the relevance of this shot. But how? If I ask people to comment on the Google group, then some people will get pissed. I know! I'll post a series of...

...pique their interest. Okay. Done. These are the ratings so far:

* Overall: 3.432

Interesting effect. Did you try it the other way?...bridge silhouette with detail in the city skyline? I don't mind the color. Nice shot, actually. High marks except for impact, because the treatment doesn't really do it for me. My marks might actually help this get featured if it's already close.

Hey, George,
Your shitload worked! I was looking for images with zero or few comments so I could be a good boy scout. Most of the images with many commments I'm already in on, so when I spotted this dramatic thumbnail with all the comments, but not featured, I had to drop in with my two cents worth.
You'll see all your ratings except Impact go up a notch. Good work and Relevant enough for me, but how hard can that be?

King, I figured you'd be the only one to fall for my shenanigans. Thanks for the feedback and the slight bump up in ratings (woohoo!), which are now...
* Relevance: 3.40
* Impact: 3.40
* Composition: 3.40
* Technique: 3.60
* Quality: 3.67
* Overall: 3.494
By the way, I didn't try it the other way (bridge silhouette with detail in the city skyline) as it seemed to me the "relevance" might then shift more to the skyline than the bridge...but what do I know? When you say the treatment doesn't work for you, do you mean the color specifically, or the shot in general? I value your feedback :-)
King said 643 days ago:
@George,
The treatment just seems a bit unnatural. You don't work in Photoshop and I don't know what's available in Picassa, but if the sky and sea weren't so dark--just the city silhouette, I think you'd have a winner. You'd expect some highlights in the water over on the right, and there is no reason for the brightest highlights in the clouds above the city to have some much density, although the sky could naturally darken, especially if using a polarizing filter.
If you want to see what I'm talking about, send me a high-res file and I'll run it through Photoshop to maintain what you are getting at here, but fix the water and sky more to my liking (how egotistic!).

King, Thanks for the offer. I'd love to see how you work it. I'll send you the original image later tonight...or maybe tomorrow. (I'm not at home...and when I do get home I won't have much - if any - time on the computer).

I really like the clouds and colours on this one, so monochrome. The relevance is just a tiny bit off since this is more like a landscape/cityscape than an actual bridge shot. Still nice.
