Andrew, I agree: it sucks that no one else has left a comment so far. Not that it's any solace, but it happens even to the best of 'em. Bingo Bango Bongo.

Speaking on "not that it's any solace"...my #29 has only 1 comment, too.
George said 517 days ago:
Well at this point my image has four comments, but two are mine. Yours has four comments, too, but they're all from me which I hope is not a complete aggravation. Not that I'm trying to be a Pain In The Ass, although it was me who suggested that theme to begin with.

You are all great pals, sticking by me even after I've "had a go" at the system. Much appreciated, and very heart-warming! I will say that I seem to struggle getting my images to look as good here on WS as they do in PS. Anyone up for sending me a "tutorial"?
George said 515 days ago:
Andrew, I have no idea why your images don't look the same. Are you sure that's not just a perception? That is to say, do you feel the same way about your featured images? I rarely use PS, so I'm no good in that department.

hey mate !!!
1/ for your PS pb you can try this http://www.photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=00Ju5d hope this will help !!

Andrew,
The difference between Photoshop and W.S. may be in the color space. Make sure that you are not working in Adobe RGB, because the conversion will reduce the contrast and color saturation.
I like this shot, btw.

Andrew,
Radiant Vista (http://www.radiantvista.com/) is a wonderful resource for photoshop tutorials. They have a number of downloadable video tutorials.

Thank you all for your help and comments. Every little helps!!!
CraigMartin said 510 days ago:
King, can you expand on what you mean by that - ie. not working in Adobe RGB? Do you mean you shouldn't work in RGB mode within PS? Or something else?
A related question I have, is how do people reduce the size of their shots to the 750 pixel requirement for WS? Do you just save to jpeg for that size, or do you step the image size down in PS, with incremental sharpening as you go, until you get to 750, and then save to a jpeg? I read somewhere that the latter is better, but I remain unsure.
mooch said 502 days ago:
Um, Craig I can answer the second part of this question. The first part referring to colourspace is a potential minefield, I use sRGB.
You wondered how to go about adjusting the image to 750 pixels to submit to WS?
Here goes:
Get an image into photoshop then go to help (across the top) then you'll see in the menu "resize image" click that, up pops a wizrd type thing you have a choice of two, can't remember both but you want "for web use2 the second. click that, then put in your figue on the longest edge of the image (i.e. if it's a portrait image, you want the height set to 700 or 750) and then it will auto adjust the edge.
You will then have your cropped image and your original, save your cropped as whatever you like and that should be that.
I say this is correct as it is how I submit my images both to my websites and to WS.

Craig,
It's absolutely okay to work in Adobe RGB, but be sure to "CONVERT" you image to sRGB before saving it and posting it to W.S.
Edit > Convert to Profie > sRGB
Converting the image will preserve the luminance and color saturation that you want to see when the image is opened in your browser.
As far as resizing, if I want to post a 750 pixel image, I first resize it to 1500 pixels, apply a small amount of sharpening and add a small border before resizing again to 750 and posting to W.S.

Craig, I'd follow King's route, I'm pretty lazy and haven't his expertise.

Thanks!

Craig, I'm not the best photoshopper, but I take a little different tack than those two guys. I do all the editing I'm going to do on a file except the sharpening. Then I use File -> Automate -> Fit Image and make the numbers there 750 or whatever size you want your longest side to be and click OK. Then I blow the picture back up to 100% in my window and sharpen at that point, before saving for web.
I may try out the mooch approach and see if that works for me too.

So many ratings, so few comments (i.e. zero). This is a different submission from the other ones I've seen. The graffiti on the walls is intriguing. I have to say the white dots in the top left are a bit of a distraction to me. But I like the feeling of the bridge and the road and the winter scene.
