Even with the not so good image quality I really like this image!
The helicopter is great as a reference to see how big those clouds actually are!
Thumbs up for this difficult take!

Ana said 634 days ago:

what I see is a helicopter that is made super tiny because of the BIG clouds.

George said 634 days ago:

Thanks ChriZ :-)

George said 634 days ago:

Ana, I'm not sure what you mean. I'm left with wondering whether your impression is that this is only about a small helicopter, or whether the clouds do come across as BIG. Please clarify :-)

kadenajack said 634 days ago:

I'm getting big fire here, but you're really making me work for it.

kadenajack said 634 days ago:

So this is a photo about clouds? Looked like smoke from a fire to me. I'm sorry, but this just isn't working.

Jondor said 634 days ago:

High scores for impact, but my first thought on this image is "How small we are confronted with the world around us". Then again, the clouds really show big compared. So my first thought is "small, tiny" and only the second relates to scale and "big"
Nevertheless hight scores for a great image!

Ana said 634 days ago:

I was typing it as I saw it. My first thought was, "gosh, what a tiny helicopter." But I realized the size of the clouds was the reason for that! So I gave you a 5 for relevance. Sorry if my thought process is confusing. It's tough on me, too.

gembase said 634 days ago:

I found the helicopter difficult to find at first look.

beckn32 said 634 days ago:

I'm guessing the big comes from the sky? I wish this had a better quality too it. It seems too overworked.

King said 634 days ago:

Here's another photograph that I simply like for what it is. The final effect, as presented, with its treatment, is super.

High marks.

P.S. - with a photo like this, a bit of fuzzines, grain, etc., doesn't bother me a bit.

:>)

@kadenjack:
What I'm trying to convey is the enormity of the natural world in relation to the "insignificance" of mankind.

King said 634 days ago:

Preach, preacher!

George said 634 days ago:

@Jondor:
Glad ya like it :-)

P.S. This appears to be one of those that people either pretty much like...or pretty much hate. Heh.

George said 634 days ago:

@Ana:
Thanks for the clarification...and the chuckle :-)

George said 634 days ago:

@gembase:
Well I hope it was a pleasant discovery...but something tells me it wasn't. Ha.

George said 634 days ago:

@beckn32:
You're guessing right! As for quality, um, I dig it!

George said 634 days ago:

@King:
Cheers, mate! I'm glad the fuzziblotchygraininess works for you :-)

kadenajack said 634 days ago:

I see what you're getting at now George. I just don't see like some of the hard core photographers on here do I guess.

Incidentally, love your new name. "No man, it's me Dave. Open up I've got the stuff!"

George said 634 days ago:

kadenjack, i'm glad i was able to clarify my intention; i appreciate your return visit to continue the dialogue. and i'm not only thrilled you noticed my new name (!), but i had a swing by your profile and caught yours: Can't Buy A Feature. Ha! I'm not laughing at you; your ability to poke fun at yourself is not only admirable but funny! keep working the shots, it's only a matter of time.

King said 633 days ago:

This is one of my favorite photos of the theme so far, not so much because it is overpoweringly relevant, but because it is such a fine photograph--it appeals to me, anyway.

George said 633 days ago:

King, I'm delighted it strikes a chord with you :-)

philippe said 633 days ago:

The idea is interesting.

dennis said 632 days ago:

I love this, and I don't know why it's not featured yet. Or maybe I do. I'm not sure how clever I am, but the obvious take here is that's a great big storm with a helicopter flying into it.

The slightly less obvious (I think) is that's a huuuuge fire, where we're only seeing the resulting smoke, and that helicopter is flying in a load of water to dump and douse the flames. I know that's probably not right, but I'm choosing to interpret this as such.

It also has a slightly Vietnam War feeling about it, thanks again to the chopper.

Whatever it is, I dig it.

George said 632 days ago:

Dennis, you're right, it's a great big storm with a helicopter flying into it. I wanted to get a bit of that gritty effect so perhaps that's where the fire/Vietnam feel comes in. I dig your interpretation :-)

dennis said 632 days ago:

I'm sure that's what it is George, the grain and the colours. Hit the front page, damn you! (I tried)

George said 631 days ago:

I dig your interest in this shot Dennis! Given the bottom-of-the-barrel numbers, it'll be a miracle of miracles if it makes it to the home page. But ya know what? Your enthusiasm feels so much better than a home page jaunt!
