Clyde, not a ton more, just a touch more. Tone in black and white is a black art. Just a 'tad' too much and it's blown. Just a tad too little and it's muddy. It's a wonderful image, well composed with interesting subject matter. The clouds add such a mystical element to the harshness of the desert.
It appears that the time was right around noon. To get the type of exposure you got here is remarkable, as it would have been so easy to blow it all out. I suspect you exposed it about one stop lower than dead center.

Hey, thanks for taking the time, this is what makes these sites so much fun for me... I am learning so much from this whole experience.
Actually, this was about an hour before sunset, check the long shadows on the ground. I have not had much experience in B&W conversions, but it sure is a challenge. Keep watching, we'll see how it does. Good luck with yours...

Joshua trees are some of my favorite desert plants. I like this image, but it doesn't work as well as it could because of the lack of contrast. The image feels and appears muddy. Had you boosted the contrast and adjusted the shadows and highlights this image would have more impact.
