This feels forced. It's as if you needed some way to post an alone picture, so you deliberately underexposed to make all the detail disappear in this scene. He may be alone, but the image just feels like a piece of clip art with all the black around it.

This minimalist image would work better if it were about 7,500 pixels across, in my opinion. The extreme area of dead solid black (I mean dead...solid...black) doesn't do anything for me at this image size, and may not if it were larger...and I want to read his shirt. What is he doing?

Sorry to be crabby. The part of the image with tonal variety I like just fine. And you're lucky. Most of the images that I take the time to complain about get featured.

He is standing on a dock with water beneath him and a stand of trees in front of him. I took the picture when there was very little light left, and when I got it into the raw processor and just tweaked the curves a bit I could make the water and trees go black, which I thought looked kind of interesting, but perhaps I should have left at least an outline of the trees.

Oh, and he's fixing his fishing line which had gotten tangled.
