It's more a picture of a "What could happen then..." and I really like the story under the image and the high tension you kind of create..well done !!

awh....shut out.
this is one of those "you have to SEE it to take it" photos! Good eye.

I've decided that my favorite images are those that put a smile on my face, as this one does. Oh, I love the great beauty, human interest, dramatic impact, technical excellence and all that, but there is nothing like a smile to lift one's spirits.
Thanks for posting this and I hope you get high marks all around.

High marks for humour! The composition that seems to quite deliberately include the "women" up in the top left corner adds a layer of political statement - great shot and very thoughtfully arranged.

great theme,nice photo

Thank you for all your thoughtful comments. I simply HAD to circle back around and pull over when I saw this poor dog's plight. It was so funny and so darn sad at the same time. I kept hoping the dog might sit down for the more "classic" shot, but this shot with him standing, in the end, really heightens the tension, I feel.
Alas, my camera struggles in low-light, so the shot didn't come out as well as I'd hoped. Hopefully, Father Christmas will be bringing me a new one as I've been VERY good. And through watching and learning here and elsewhere, I hope to bring a bit more light (and a few smiles) to the world.

Very funny interpretation of the theme. Made me smile. Good work.

Dog discrimination, thats a sad looking pup. I like the composition and the B&W.

cool, takes a while to read (the dogs sign makes it work), which gives it "staying power". A little flat in terms of the lighting though, perhaps some more contrast would be nice

Thank you for the additional comments. I really am glad to have mustered up the courage to have submitted this sooner, rather than waited to have waited until Wednesday evening like I usually do.
jan--re: contrast I will give that a try, unfortunately, there was so very little light.
To see a color shot and a more painterly effect I applied to deal with the noise, here's a link from my website: http://www.photo.mybluemuse.com/index.php?showimage=141
(gulp, uh, the effects are all mine I'm afraid, no photoshop filters were used)
Besides photography, I'm obviously new to post-processing in Photoshop Elements, so sometimes I can lose myself in playing around with a shot for hours. Luckily or unluckily, I'm obsessive, so I love this part. Like how I used to toy with a draft of a poem...sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. But it's all good work, the flexing of your creative muscles.
Note: What I'm describing, the painterly effect, worked out better in this shot, I think: http://www.photo.mybluemuse.com/index.php?showimage=132
I'm babbling to no one, aren't I?

Hi. I note you haven't been around since the Macro theme - but if you are still out there, you ought to re-post this for the current "Signs" theme.
King said 566 days ago:
Brilliant idea.

Aw, shucks. Thanks guys.
It's a bit late tonight. Perhaps tomorrow morning I'll see what I can do about the contrast Jan mentioned and resubmit.
King good to see you back! Did you ever see my Mice and the Lemon Tree poem I left out bare in the world for you? Just wondering. :p

peejaytaylor,
No, I didn't see it! Thank you--I love it! I'll post it here for others to enjoy--hoping you don't mind.
The Mice and the Lemon Tree
There are mice eating our lemons,
zesting the skins. Naked fruit is strewn
all over our patio and drive. They gnaw
the bark and whole branches wither and die.
My husband set out traps, though we never
touch the lemons—wishing instead for oranges.
The bite. The sour taste. I wonder how they live
on citrus. He baits the traps with cheese, still
they eat more lemons. I suppose the moon
could be one peeled, instead of Swiss. Only
one was caught, his corpse stiff, not much
bigger than the fruit it sought. I told my husband
leave them be; it’s just a another lemon tree.
And I hold no bitterness when more lemons
drop.

This is funny. See, someone can inject some humor into the theme. It's not the best picture in the world, but it is memorable, and that's worth a lot in my book.
