I see what you are going for. In this case though, I think the "alone" subject is just too small relative the the surrounding area. That might have worked if the surrounding area was smoother and more of a "negative space". But with all of the intricate detail in those trees/water/rocks/etc. it is nearly impossible to see the subject against the background. Maybe if this guy was ice fishing instead...that would have nailed it ;)

What an excellent place to be alone!

This is too much nit-picking for me.

jbron said 755 days ago:

Too far for me...

philippe said 755 days ago:

@jbron: use your binocular :O)

Ana said 755 days ago:

Oh, there's a little person down there! This looks more serene than alone. Beaufiful landscape.

philippe, I don't think anyone is being nit-picky, and I think that the comments are all going to be very similar (and sincere). I think what is being said is this, yes, he is alone, but look what he is alone with!!

This speaks to me more of beautiful wilderness than being alone...but a nice shot.

Eveboby is against me :O(
(kidding!)
Alright, Ana, let's say I've made the wrong choice. Also, the fisherman is more visible when the picture is a bit bigger. But I still think that this "constructive criticism" bullshit is never far from nit-picking ("fly fucking", to translate litteraly a french idiom- sorry for being rude, but this is intentional). I can handle some critics, not bad faith. I've experimented this before (not only for my pictures), and you probably have too.
Last, who said that being alone is necessarily related to a negative feeling?

philippe said 755 days ago:

Perhaps the correct word is "insincerity" (instead of "bad faith").
For instance, I get a 3.14 in technique. Can some explain what"s technically wrong in this image (don't try)?
I'm comforted in my idea that we have a general feeling and appreciation about one image and, for the rest, there's a lot of wanking involved. But I can understand some people enjoy this activity...
