This seems to be more about loneliness or despair than absence but I can see how it would be somewhat relevant. It's very dramatic.

To me this image says many things, loneliness, sadness, isolation, fear, hide and seek but it does not say absence. Nicely lit and set up though.

An absent love? Absent furniture? ;)

Either way, I really like this. The harsh backlighting works really well to throw the subject into shadow, reflecting the apparent mood.
