Just two things I had around the house. I was up early this morning, feeling blue because I don't have any W.S.-worthy phallic images in my archives and it's raining out. I was sitting, drinking my tea and looking at the great images posted so far when two things came up: The funny ceramic vessel I made for my son (who was always sticking his tongue out at me) and a banana. I didn't have a banana, but I had a cucumber.

I would not have guessed this was yours...not because of the content or composition (both great)but because of the poor lighting and the extreme amount of highlights (especially on that orange shaft) are not something we'd normally see from you.

Very relevant, of course. : )

The lighting has lots of punch and contrast on purpose. That doesn't make it poor lighting. In fact, it's rather good lighting, in my opinion. If I changed nothing but soften the contrast, leaving everything else exactly as is, it would look more like what you are used to seeing from me.

That white line down the vase is what I'm talking about. Looks like a paper strip? Like I said, good shot, but that's really bothersome to me.

Ana...it's a highlight thrown by a mirror reflecting the main light back into the shadow area of the vase. The main light is diffused, the mirror is not. It's not brighter than the other specular highlights on the top of the vase or the cucumber.

However, if I had had more time (I didn't), I probably would have softened that highlight and you would have been happier with the lighting. :>)
