I really love the green moss against the steel blue of the machinery. It doesn't strike me as particularly old, but high marks on all else.
CaptureThis said 486 days ago:
Nice tones in this. It looks like mildew is growing on it so it's been like that a long time.
What kind of machine is it? It looks like some sort of pump, or maybe a flood gate?
browe said 486 days ago:
5's I really like how the non mossy areas stand out.
ImagoArticulus said 486 days ago:
Speaks "green" to me and not as much "old." Perhaps if it was rusted. I like the shot, btw.
SeekingFocus said 486 days ago:
Very green. Very Striking. Relevance was a bit low for me.

Looks like a paint cannister exploded. This is a powerful and dramatic photo, well exposed and presented. I like it very much and, although this is not the type of photo I usual take, I might have taken this one if I had been there.
Minor point: The big wheel and the cylinder it is attached to are such important elements in this photo that if I had taken this photo (and if it were possible), I would have created either just a little more separation between the wheel-and-cylinder and the other elements by moving the camera up and to the left (six inches would do it).
High marks, except that this does not say "old" to me. Steel, if not rusted, has a way of belying its age.

funny, almost every comment states that they don't feel this looks old. nor do I. but it's green, that's for sure. a feature that doesn't seem to fit the theme. just what we were discussing in the google group.
kadenajack said 486 days ago:
This seems older than the image that started that whole mess though.
King said 486 days ago:
@kadenajack,...and which image was that?
I've read but stayed out of the Relevance discussion on the WeeklyShot group, although mooch took a little shot at me as if I had posted something. I found that to be amusing.
mooch said 486 days ago:
I did not take a shot at you King
SeekingFocus said 486 days ago:
@King:
I believe it was this one:
http://www.weeklyshot.org/theme/old/featured/1/
King said 486 days ago:
@mooch...I didn't mean that in a negative way. Perhaps I should have said "addressed me" when I had made (at that point) no contribution to the discussion. You wrote:
@king. The funny thing is...this site really IS about relevance. Why else do we have themes?? Otherwise we could just post perfect photos
and skip the themes all together!! : )
King said 486 days ago:
Folks,
By the way, isn't this an intense and almost 3-D image? It is on my monitor.
Ana said 486 days ago:
hey King. I said that quote up there about you. And I was saying nice things about your phonograph shot.
Mooch quotes in a way that makes it look like he said things he didn't say. but that was me. (I'm pretty sure!)
Was trying to say that if the site weren't about relevance there wouldn't be a theme, or a cateory rating it. Your shot of the record player is wonderfully done...blah blah...2007 penny...blah blah....
I wrote it all over there! hee hee.

@CaptureThis: It is a part of a ship lift.

And by the way, the ship lift was built 1899. Isn't that old enough? ;)

King said 486 days ago:
@Ana & mooch...yes, I've noticed that mooch has an unusual way of quoting folks. I'm sure I just misread things.
Thanks, both of you.
kadenajack said 486 days ago:
I think this is an amazing image. I like it a lot and thought it was highly relevant even before joerg let us know when it was built.
Ana said 486 days ago:
1899 is old enough for me, for sure. But this shot has no way of telling me it's 1899. Don't get me wrong, it's a great photograph. I didn't actually get a chance to rate it.
@king. I was complimenting you. : )
CaptureThis said 486 days ago:
Thanks for letting me know what this is. Interesting info.
1899 is old.

Love the tones.
This would also fit in the "Green" theme.

I like your composition. I get the green moss and all but it just doesn't strike me as old... there is no impact for me. The image quality is great and lighting is nice.
