i think if i were shoting this picture i would try to put the background in the focus. so that you look through something. ok, we have seen this a lot but i think it would be better.

nattfodd said 613 days ago:

@matt: I actually did both, and I liked this version far better, since there is a lot more things in focus, and the painting (I don't know the exact english word for this) has quite interesting details.
Also, I think the subject is really this religious figure with a big hole in it, and not the croos itself.

Thanks for your comment.

An interesting composition and scene. Has a strong feeling to it. The fact that the woman (I assume) is missing her head and torso with a view to the cross beyond is suggestive and full of symbolism. It takes more than a few seconds to appreciate this image. I hope other raters do the same. I think the image could be cropped in on the left, since it goes off into a rather dark area which, to my eye, tends to distract from the main part of the image (the woman), because I'm struggling to see what's over there.

This was a good quality shot that passes for the theme, but doesn't give any real impact to me. Also, is that a guard rail along the bottom in front of the stained glass?

Still, a pretty good shot.

nattfodd said 613 days ago:

@Pixorperfect: I'm afraid so. I tried to remove it with Photoshop, as well as the one that passes just above the cross, but I didn't manage to get a very convincing result so I just left it at that. If someone wants to give it a try, I can provide a full-size jpeg :)

I really like this. Perhaps just a shame it wasn't a brighter day, but that's being picky.

great photo, and what a place to find... a little more focus on the cross would have made it perfect i think..

Thanks all. It was taken this afternoon in the Pere Lachaise cemetery of Paris (the one where Jim Morrison rests, among others). I heartily recommend any photographer to visit it during a trip to Paris, there are really many great shots waiting to be taken there.

this took me a few tries to see what this is, but now that I see...it's great! Glad I waited and kept looking.
