I think there needs to be a bit more exposure on the... whatever it is (yucca?) in the foreground.

To me this is perfect exposure all the way around. Flashing the foreground yucca would really be unnatural and lose a lot of the appeal IMHO.

No, I wasn't being sarcastic, just mixed my words! I meant less exposure - as I would like to see a bit more details in there. Thanks for catching that.

You're right about the use of flash here being the wrong option (IMO). But, imagine if that sun (which lights the background so wonderfully) were lighting the foreground as well. Then we'd be seeing those beautiful orange rocks throughout the frame.

Thanks for all the comments. The reason I didn't flash the tree was that I wanted the spikes to stand out against the sky and I also thought if the tree were lighter, the colors of the rock and sky wouldn't stand out as well. Sometimes slight detail is enough.
