Thanks feelingdave and uncommondepth. King, a self-portrait is a portrait of myself. I set up the tripod, stood in front of my white projector screen, and with a remote control in my hand, I took this shot.

This is not about you Lewis, but I'm addressing a larger issue in your space. Please forgive me.

What is a self-portrait? Is it just a photo with some part of your body inserted into the frame? Many photos of this type are held in high regard on this forum. I'd like a little more meat (so to speak).

Show me the history of your life in the lines in your face. Show me your smile or your frown. Show me your expressive hands. Show me the weight and length and shape of your body.

Show me where you live, the objects in your home that have meaning to you. Show me your mountains or rivers or the rolling sand of the place on earth where you live.

Let your photograph convey a rich and varied story and tell that story well.

Definition of 'self-portrait': A pictorial or literary portrait of oneself, created by oneself.

The application could be limitless, as you have put it well. One more application could be "I am telling you nothing about me."

What I did here could be just cute. But the fact is, I was having great difficulty dealing with some personal life issue, and doing cute photos like this one is a way of dealing with my stress. The photo doesn't tell that part of my story. That, could be my choice, or could be I wasn't good enough to show that.
