Not particularly defending my own work because I can take any crit, but not sure I would agree with you Lukewinter. To me this sums up the end of a rather nice day out for these kids and the weather was just like it is.
The obvious closeness of the subjects is what this picture is about - the sky is just the sky.
Cheers

It's a fun image and a huge beach. I like the blurring of the background to bring the focus on the kids but I'd like it better if the sand between their legs was blurred as well.

If you are going to use the blur feature in photoshop (or any image editing program) make sure you blur between legs equally and not just trace around the subject.
And the two children in the center are showing definate joy, but the girl in the pink seems to suck that joy away.

Sorry to dissapoint you Before Profit. This has not had any photoshop blur whatsoever. You are free to examine the raw file if you want.
It has had a slight vignette.
Thanks, John

My bad... it might be the lines in the sand that make it look like the blur is being traced around their feet. Plays tricks with my eyes.

This is a wonderful image. The only part that detracts from 'Joy' is the girl on the very left. She seems bored or pensive.

Great image, i think i prefered the black and white version, but this suits the joy theme better i suppose.

the tones and colours of the background kind of remove any joy from the photo from the subjects imho. Maybe try warming up the bg colours, you've got a nice dramatic sky to play with.
